Wisdom & Peace

Updated: Feb 16, 2021

Relationships are a part of life, but having a relationship with God is life. What we yearn for deep in our hearts is peace and the only way to fully obtain that peace is through developing a personal relationship with God. As I’ve meditated on the book of Proverbs, specifically Chapter 8 this week, I’ve learned that when we gain wisdom and knowledge, we obtain peace. But I’m not talking about any kind of knowledge, I am specifically speaking on the knowledge that we can only gain through our connection with Christ. What wisdom gives us is the ability to discern the inner qualities of others, we develop insight, and gain the ability to recognize the good in others, and the bad. As we grow to have a respect for God by obeying his word, and removing ourselves from evilness, we strengthen ourselves through the counsel that Christ gives us. That strength also enables us to be vessels for Jesus.

In the beginning of Proverbs 8, Solomon is stating that wisdom is crying out to all of us. Since wisdom was here before the foundation of the earth, it knows exactly what is needed for us because wisdom is God. What I mean by that is we can only gain deep understanding of ourselves through the eyes of Christ, but the only way to get to know God is by studying his word. The chapter further states in verse 5 that people who are not on one accord with God must get to know him on a personal level, so he could lead them to fulfill their purpose on earth. God is righteous and if we want to have knowledge, we must respect God. The only way we can do that is by turning away from all forms of evilness, and taking heed to his teachings. As he addresses in verse 6 and 7, he states, listen, for I will speak of excellent things, and from the opening of my lips will come right things; For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. Through the word, we can clearly see the paths leading to us gaining wisdom which ultimately lands to peace and prosperity. We cannot obtain the desires we truly seek within us if we don’t have Christ.

Like I’ve stated earlier, God is Wisdom and wisdom has always been with God, and in order for us to reap true understanding and to know ourselves and find our purpose on earth, we have to seek God. As stated in Verse 14, counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength. We need to receive counsel from God because he is guiding our destiny. Wisdom gives us strength because we know that it’s coming from God which then grant us peace. God loves all the ones who seek wisdom, as he acknowledge in verse 17, I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. In verses 22-31 its showing how, wisdom has been with God since the beginning, so as we seek wisdom we will know the answers to all things we desire in Christ. In the closing epilogue, I love how Solomon breaks down the teaching of wisdom in God. He’s showing how blessed we would be if we keep God’s teachings stored in our hearts and mind, and utilize them in our lives. When we find God, we find life 8:35. God is the source to all our desires, and through him we gain peace, happiness, and prosperity. Proverbs 8 exemplifies the true meaning of wisdom and having a relationship with God. It gives us concise description on the steps we must take to reap the glorious benefits he has already provided for us. All the internal and external things we desire are within our reach, but we first have to seek the kingdom (Matthew 6:33.)
